The Best eSIM for Egypt: Plans, Prices and Networks for Cairo, the Red Sea and the Nile
Published on October 21, 2026 · 3 min read
The pyramids at Giza and the new Grand Egyptian Museum, a week of diving or sun in Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh or Marsa Alam, a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan: Egypt is a trip that runs on your phone, from the ride-hailing app that spares you the taxi negotiation to the museum tickets, the dive-centre WhatsApp group and the hotel's QR menu.
Egypt is not part of EU roaming, and the airport SIM counters involve passport copies and a queue. This is what an Egypt eSIM from Lyntel costs, which network it uses and which plan fits your trip. Prices are as of October 2026 and start from $5.
Which network does the eSIM use?
The eSIM connects to Orange Egypt, one of the country's four national networks, which covers Cairo, Alexandria, the Red Sea resorts and the Nile valley. There is one network on the plan, so nothing to configure: the phone joins it and stays on it. Out at sea or deep in the desert coverage drops for everyone, whichever SIM you carry.
Plans and who each one is for
| Plan | Validity | Price | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $5 | A long weekend in Cairo: maps, ride-hailing, messaging |
| 2 GB | 15 days | $9.50 | Two weeks of navigation, email and social media |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $13.50 | A month at the pace of messaging and the occasional video |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $21 | Social media and photos every day, a little streaming |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $35 | Video calls and streaming, working on the move |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $60 | HD streaming, big uploads, a month of remote work |
| 50 GB | 30 days | $100 | A long stay, sharing with the family over hotspot |
How much data do you actually need?
- Maps and messaging: 1 GB a week.
- Social media, a few videos a day: 2 to 3 GB a week.
- Streaming in the evening, video calls home: 5 to 10 GB a week.
- Working from the trip: 20 GB and above.
Resort Wi-Fi on the Red Sea is often slow once the whole hotel is on it after dinner; a 5 or 10 GB plan means you do not have to care.
Good to know
- Calls and SMS. The plans are data only. Calls over WhatsApp and similar apps work as they do at home, and your own SIM stays in the phone for regular calls.
- Hotspot works, so the eSIM can feed a laptop or a second phone.
- Nile cruises. Boats pass long stretches with weak signal between towns; download maps and entertainment while docked in Luxor or Aswan.
How activation works
- Buy the plan on lyntel.io or in the Lyntel app.
- Install the eSIM from the email: scan the QR code, or one tap on iOS and Android.
- Turn on data roaming for the Lyntel line when you land in Cairo, Hurghada or Sharm. The validity starts at the first connection, so install it at home and let it wait.
Almost every phone from the last five years supports eSIM; check yours on the supported devices list.
Egypt as part of a longer trip
Combining Cairo with Jordan or Dubai? One Middle East eSIM covers Egypt with its neighbours on a single plan, so there is nothing to swap at each border. Going on to Saudi Arabia? It is not in the regional plan; add a Saudi Arabia eSIM.
