Kotor's old town and the bay, the beaches from Budva to Ulcinj, Durmitor and the Tara canyon, or Žabljak in the snow: Montenegro packs a lot into a small country, and most of it is reached by car, with a map open on the phone.
Here is the catch: Montenegro is not in the EU, so an EU roaming plan from Croatia, Germany or Italy stops working at the border or starts charging by the megabyte, and visitors from the UK, the US or the Gulf usually pay roaming rates. (Neighbours in Bosnia, Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia roam at home prices under the Western Balkans agreement, up to a fair-use limit.) A Montenegro eSIM from Lyntel is the simple answer: bought at home, a fixed price, working the moment you cross the border. Prices are as of October 2026 and start from $4.50.
Which networks does the eSIM use?
The eSIM connects to One Montenegro, Mtel and T-Mobile, all three national networks, and picks the strongest signal wherever you are. That means coverage along the whole coast, in Podgorica and on the roads into the mountains, and a second network to fall back on where one of them is weaker.
The plans, and who each one is for
| Plan | Validity | Price | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $4.50 | A weekend in Kotor or Budva: maps, messages, photos |
| 2 GB | 15 days | $6.00 | Two weeks of navigation, email and social media |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $7.00 | A month with occasional video |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $9.50 | Daily social media and photos, some streaming |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $14.00 | Video calls and streaming, remote work |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $22.00 | HD streaming, large uploads, working all month |
| 50 GB | 30 days | $45.00 | Long stays, sharing with the family over a hotspot |
How much data do you actually need?
- Maps and messaging: 1 GB a week.
- Social media, a few videos a day: 2 to 3 GB a week.
- Evening streaming, video calls home: 5 to 10 GB a week.
- Working from the trip: 20 GB or more.
On the coast in summer the apartment Wi-Fi is often shared with the whole building; a 5 or 10 GB plan means you never have to think about it.
How activation works
- Buy the plan on lyntel.io or in the Lyntel app.
- Install the eSIM from the email: scan the QR code, or one tap on iOS and Android.
- Turn on data roaming for the Lyntel line when you cross the border or land in Tivat or Podgorica. Validity starts at first connection, so install it at home and it waits for you.
Your own SIM stays in the phone and you keep your number; WhatsApp keeps working as it always did.
Nearly every phone from the last five years supports eSIM; check yours on supported devices.
Montenegro as part of a longer trip
